Lady Gaga has recorded a guest spot for an upcoming episode of The Simpsons as part if the show’s 23rd season.

“She’s playing herself and we describe her as the happiest, most optimistic person in the world,” said Yeardley Smith. “She comes to Springfield to try to cheer up Lisa, but she can’t.”

Expect animated Gaga to be just as over the top as her real-life persona, blowing into town on a Gaga Express train decorated by a huge flame shooting bustier. She even finds time to plant a wet one on Marge. “I play a little bit of a slut. The apple doesn’t fall far from my artistic tree,” joked Gaga. “I would say this is one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. My dad’s probably going to do 80 backflips when the episode comes out.”

“Lisa Goes Gaga” airs in spring 2012.

On Monday, Lady Gaga stopped by a recording studio – but this time it wasn’t to record a new song. Gaga will be lending her voice to an animated version of herself on The Simpsons, a rep confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.

Lady Gaga will play herself in the episode “Lisa Goes Gaga,” which is set to air this fall after the show returns for its 23rd season on September 25.

In the episode, Lady Gaga will head to Springfield, where self-esteem has plummeted, and helps Lisa Simpson to find her voice. And what would an episode with Lady Gaga be without a flash mob?

“I make music, but I don’t do voice-overs every day of the week, and their characters are so awesomely convincing and sincere and wild and funny, I had to remind myself constantly of the sincerity of the humor,” Gaga told EW of recording the episode.

Gaga wasn’t the only one excited about her appearance. Yeardley Smith, who voices Lisa Simpson was also looking forward to having the Grammy winner on the show.
