Various sources began reporting today that pop sensation Lady Gaga is in negotiations with Brian May to take up the mantle of being the official lead singer of Queen.
According to The Daily Express, longtime guitarist Brian May stated Gaga isn’t the only candidate the band is considering, but he mentioned at the BMI Awards in London that she has voiced her interest in collaborating with the band:
We get a lot of offers to work with other people. I worked with Lady Gaga and she’s very creative and is someone we’ve talked about singing, fronting the band with. She’s not just a singer, she writes her own material. For two decades, Queen has been plagued with the task of filling the void left by the irreplaceable Freddie Mercury, who died of AIDS in 1991. After a brief stint with former Bad Company vocalist Paul Rodgers, Queen has once again been singer-less as of 2009.
May has also mentioned the possibility of a TV show where a rotating lineup of guest stars will perform duets with Queen. In the meantime, he and his band are keeping plenty busy with two films: a documentary about Freddie Mercury and a film adaptation of the We Will Rock You musical.
