While 2011 brought no meat dresses, scarecrow ensembles or Space Age princess gowns, Lady Gaga still delivered another year of confusing, bizarre and downright awe-inspiring getups. Mother Monster proved once again that not only does she enjoy pushing the fashion envelope, she is far from reaching her limit when it comes to new (albeit, sometimes borrowed) and inventive looks.
Kicking off our list at #11 is Gaga’s mermaid look from her “You And I” music video.
At #10 on our list is Lady Gaga’s glamorous gold outfit worn during a photo shoot in Central Park back in September, made only more glamorous by the hot dog Stefani is gracefully holding.
#9 We will always remember 2011 as the year we were officially introduced to Jo Calderone.
#8 Gaga was all about the veils in 2011, but this look from Mother Monster’s grand entrance at Sydney’s Nevermind nightclub back in July is still our favorite.
Coming in at #7 is this ensemble from Gaga’s cover spread in Rolling Stone magazine. We still have no idea what to make of this outfit (to be honest staring at it for long periods of time just makes us queasy), but it’s memorable and intriguing enough to make our list.
This ensemble at #6 brings us to the “crazy hats” portion of our list, starting with this one used in Lady Gaga’s Born This Way: The Collection cover art.
At #5 (and continuing the “Crazy Hats” subcategory) is this koo-koo getup from Gaga’s “Marry The Night” music video, with what appears to be a hubcap to a 18-wheeler truck on her head.
#4:Rounding out our “Crazy Hats” section is this perplexing sun hat Gaga was snapped wearing as she strutted through the Sydney International Airport back in July.
While some might argue this outfit for Gaga’s NME cover shoot can barely even be considered clothing, the bodysuit’s complete impracticality and eye-popping factor scored it a spot at #3 on our list.
#2: While more of a mode of transportation, rather than an outfit the Grammy egg is technically what the Born This Way singer was snapped wearing on the red carpet back in February.
But the egg didn’t make #1 on our list. That’s because the most daring and original outfit we’ve ever seen Gaga in, is her birthday suit seen here from her Vanity Fair shoot.
