Lady Gaga: The new subject of study at an American University?

Gaga has become a new subject of study at the University of South Carolina.

Apparently, Lady Gaga's popularity has intrigued Mathieu Deflem, 48, a sociology professor at the University of South Carolina at Columbia and so he decided to conduct a course called Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame.

The objective of the course is to unravel some of the sociologically relevant dimensions of the fame of Lady Gaga. Deflem wants to find out what makes a person famous and what fame means in today world.

"What is important about the course is it isn't a musicology course," Deflem told the Daily Gamecock. "It also isn't a literary criticism course. It's not a poetry course. It's not like a dance course. It's not an art course. It's distinctly sociological."

Lady Gaga Wouldn't Respond To Real Name When Dressed As Joe Calderone

Gaga would not respond to her real name when dressed as her male alter-ego at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), it's been revealed.

The singer kept her identity for the duration of the ceremony in Los Angeles last week, including when she accepted her two awards.

VMA Executive Producer Dave Sirulnick said the singer was adamant that she should be addressed as her character – even in rehearsals.

"She showed up as Jo, rehearsed as Jo ... if you said 'Gaga', she wouldn't respond,” he said.

“After rehearsals, she comes over, she says to me, 'It's nice to meet you,' and I say to her, 'I know your friend Gaga,' and she says, 'That Gaga, what a bitch!' She did not break character once.”

He added: “She walks in backstage and, in front of a whole bunch of people, went into the men's room.”

Lady Gaga's alter-ego is also featured in the video to her new single
"Yoü And I"...

Lady Gaga Wore A Prosthetic Penis During 2011 VMAs

Gaga-as-Calderone open the show with "You and I," but apparently the singer decided to stay in character throughout the entire show, as well as backstage. And it wasn't just a wig and makeup that helped Gaga embody Calderone -- she reportedly wore a prosthetic penis throughout the night, according to Us Weekly.

Gaga walked away with two moon men at Sunday's VMAs -- Best Female Video and Best Video With a Message, both for "Born This Way -- and Calderone accepted the awards for her.

Magazine says:

The pop provocateur didn’t just wear men’s clothing (including Armani men’s underwear) and fake stubble in her “drag king” get-up: Gaga wore a prosthetic penis, an insider confirms.

The “You and I” singer stayed in character throughout the night.

Lady Gaga accused of plagiarizing Annie Lennox by Kelly Osbourne

The eccentric singer has come under criticism from Ozzy Osbourne’s daughter for plagiarism. At Sunday night’s edition of VMA, Lady Gaga appeared on stage as her male alter-ego Joe Calderone. Looking much like John Travolta in Grease, Gaga wore a loose black suit and T-shirt  with slicked-back dark hair and had a lit cigarette.
She sat at the piano and began to perform her song You and I, accompanied by a group of dancers and Brian May, legendary guitarist of the band Queen.

However, viewers accused her of plagiarizing Annie Lennox’s performance of Sweet Dreams  at the 1984 Grammy Awards.
Among her detractors was Kelly Osbourne who took to Twitter to express her disapproval.
“I love lady gaga but I wish she would start giving credit where credit is due!” Kelly wrote, posting a link to a YouTube clip of Lennox ‘s performance.

What do you think about this?
